Where do I stand right now?

Before the 1000 days officially begin, I want to be honest with myself and take stock, across the areas that matter to me. No sugarcoating, just: where do I really stand right now.

Health

At the end of May, shortly after my birthday, it became clear to me: something has to change about my health and fitness. As preparation for a 5K company run, I went jogging in early June, and had to realize that I couldn't even manage 1 km straight without being completely out of breath. At 27, I honestly didn't find that great. The number on the scale didn't exactly lift my mood either: 88 kg (over 90 kg at the end of 2025). On top of that, a tennis tournament was coming up in September, and at that point I had never played tennis in my life.

So something had to change. In June I started jogging regularly, my brother supports me with that. In July I went to the gym for the first time this year, a good friend gives me tips there. I also started with tennis, a friend is teaching me. On top of that I go bouldering every now and then and have gotten into calisthenics a bit. On the side I regularly donate blood plasma. My current weight, as of July 24th, is 83.9 kg. What I noticed the most through all this: consistency is the key, and that's exactly what I need to maintain over the 1000 days, not just keep up for a few weeks. More on that for sure in a dedicated post.

Finances

When it comes to finances, I'm currently thinking more short-term. I do save, but not enough, and that's exactly what I want to change over the 1000 days. It's not about quick wins or big leaps, but about finally thinking longer-term: building up a solid emergency fund and generally tackling the things you should or could have sorted out by your late 20s to 30. Probably the same principle applies here as with fitness: it's not the big breakthrough that counts, but staying at it.

Mindset

When it comes to mindset, I'd say: I'm actually more the type who likes to plan things before starting, but I also enjoy just trying things out when the opportunity arises. With this challenge, that's exactly my goal, finding the balance between both. Not just making plans, but actually following through on them. Consistency is the big keyword for me, not just in fitness, but across every area. Over the 1000 days I want to learn to stick with things, even when the motivation from day one is long gone. I've also bought a few books on the topic.

Career

Professionally I'm a UX designer, and I mean that with conviction. Design isn't just a job to me, it's something I genuinely enjoy: solving problems, making things clearer and more usable, tinkering with systems that need to work in everyday life. I wouldn't file this part of my life under "needs to get better" like health or finances, more as a solid anchor point I want to build on.

Alongside that, there's another side project running through the 1000 days: in September 2025 I was looking for something that wouldn't tie me to a computer all day and would also get me out around people. As a kid I always loved Pokémon and collected cards, so I got back into it. That's since turned into my Pokémon account, born out of pure passion, but by now also a small content project in its own right. It's genuinely a lot of fun, and that's exactly why I want to keep it going deliberately.

Four areas, one common thread: consistency. We'll see how that reads in 1000 days.
