Day 1: Here We Go

Today is the day: Day 1 of 1000. From today, I'm counting up to May 18, 2029, the day I turn 30. About a month ago, I wrote here on the blog about why I'm doing this, and since then it's mostly been about preparation: writing down where I currently stand, thinking about who I want to be in 1000 days, and sorting out my bucket list. As of today, planning turns into practice. I'm taking you along for the ride.

How I'm feeling right now

Honestly: excited. I've planned so many things and already started some of them that I'm genuinely curious to see how it all unfolds. But the most important thing for me isn't doing as much as possible at once, it's actually following through and sticking with it. 1000 days is a huge stretch of time, I'm well aware of that. But if I really want to change something about myself, I think this is the right approach: not a sprint, but enough time for intentions to actually become habits.

What's starting now

I've already got something planned for the start, more on that on September 3, so not much longer to wait. At its core, it always comes down to the same thing: staying consistent. Not one big move on day one, but building habits that still hold up once the initial motivation is long gone. That's exactly what I wrote down when I thought about who I want to be in 1000 days, and today is the day it actually counts to put that into practice.

Fitness: my starting point

So that I can compare in a few months or years where I started, I'll begin with a number: 83.3 kilograms, my weight this morning. For comparison, in July it was still just under 84 kilograms, and over 90 at the end of last year. The direction is right, but as of today that's officially the starting value for the 1000 days, not just a snapshot from the preparation phase anymore. When it comes to jogging, I can now manage almost 5 km without stopping. I've still got a long way to go!

The common thread

The same principle applies here as in my honest status check post: consistency. In fitness, in finances, in mindset, in my career. That also includes the habits I've built, which I'll write more about soon, once it becomes clear which of them actually survive the 1000 days.

I do have a question for you at the start: what would you expect from these 1000 days? Feel free to write to me, I'll read everything.

Day 1 isn't a special day, just the first of 1000. But that's exactly what makes it matter: from here on, all that counts is whether I keep showing up.
